Boot Girl

My 2 year old daughter Ava has suddenly become enamored with her winter boots. Her grandparents gave her these boots for Christmas in anticipation of our late January ski trip to Colorado. Ava needed some boots for playing in the snow. These are nice ones- tall, fuzzy inside, thick and heavy. Well, she used to hate them. Whenever we tried to put the boots on her she would scream and cry and carry on. We almost considered returning them at some point, but continued to try them on her every so often in hopes she would adjust before the ski trip. So many tears were shed over those boots. She did wear them in CO, without crying, but probably only because the idea of being in the snow was pleasant enough to warrant the wearing of the "dreaded boots." This week, while playing alone in her room, she rediscovered the boots in a corner of her closet, and get this: put them on by herself. I heard her trudging down the stairs. Imagine my surprise to find her coming down with those boots on her feet! For several days now she puts them on every chance she gets. Sometimes she wants me to zip them, but not always. This morning she had them on when she came downstairs from waking up. Cody said, "Goodbye Boot Girl" as he left for work. My little Boot Girl. Now that the boots are HER idea, she's in love with them.
