Mobile

Nate has learned to crawl. How fitting that this major step of independence occured on July 4th. What's amazing to me is how fast babies master crawling. On the fourth, all he could muster were a few tiny shuffles in a row. His pudgy knees barely moving forward as he teetered dangerously before completely wiping out. Now, after only a day and a half of practice, he can easily sail across the room. By tomorrow, the entire house will be at his fingertips as he will probably begin going from room to room. All those tiny toys Ava plays with that I used to shrug off with zero concern (since after all, they were unreachable by my little "sitting in one spot" boy) are now fair game for grabbing and eating. The cat should be on alert as well. Nate's one goal in life is to pull the cat's fur. This goal is highly attainable now, especially on an unsuspecting sleeping cat. Doesn't that describe most cats? I'll have to fasten the safety gate at the top of the stairs. I need to make sure Ava's library books are put far out of reach. I really don't want to have to take a half eaten book back to the library. Some of those librarians look kind of mean. I don't think they would see any humor in the situation. This new skill also comes right on the cusp of our vacation....our vacation in a strange rental house which will now have to be thoroughly investigated and ridded of any potential disasters for the crawling child. Yes, Nate is growing up. He has somehow, on his very own, learned how to do something really amazing. He is no longer stuck where I put him. It's a first act of rebellion, and not the last. Not a bad rebellion, mind you, a rebellion of revolution. A new way of doing things...his own way of doing things. Look out world!
