Kids=No Sleeping In
Those of you with kids already know this fact of life. Once you have kids, the days of sleeping in on Saturdays disappears for a while. I assume that one day when they are teenagers, we will regain the joy of sleeping in. However, for the time being, they enjoy waking at the crack of dawn. I, being the clever parent that I am, decided to bring Ava downstairs when she wandered into our room at 6:45 and put on cartoons. I thought I would be able to get her settled in and perhaps sleep another 30 minutes or so. Unfortunately, I was shocked to discover that there are NO CARTOONS ON AT 6:45 AM! It's Saturday, right? There should be cartoons on starting at 5 AM just for the sole purpose of keeping our children occupied until we are ready to face the day. I remember waking long before my parents on Saturdays growing up. Sometimes it would still be dark outside, and there was always a cartoon to watch. So, this morning I did the next best thing and put in a DVD of Richard Scarry cartoons and figured I had approximately 30 minutes to rest my eyes a bit. My favorite Saturday morning cartoon, and really the only one we make any effort to watch, is The Backyardigans. The songs are well done. The plot is pretty interesting. If you have kids- check it out at 10 AM central time on CBS.
