Learning to Jump
There's this great stage kids go through when they are learning how to jump. Jumping is really pretty difficult. We take it for granted sometimes the complexity required to push off with both feet while at the same time using all kinds of body muscles to propel oneself completely off the ground. The stage of learning lasts various amounts of time depending on the child, but never long enough for me to tire of the hilarious knee bending and arm raising attempts to lift off. Sometimes they even get one foot off the ground for a milisecond. Their little faces light up as their attempts are praised and they try and try again. What is really amazing is how young children are when they master these kinds of things. Walking, jumping, running, climbing...when they were helpless little blobs only a year or less ago.

Hi! I just stumbled onto the B.A.D. girls book club and wanted so badly to leave a message, but alas, the site does not allow anonymous comments. I do not blog, but I cruise around reading other blogs and commenting when I feel particularly motivated.
You wrote on March 6 about two books you had (kinda) read, The Lovely Bones, and Cold Mountain.
My feelings are spot on with you and that makes me feel so relieved. I loved The Lovely Bones but had to claw my way through Cold Mountain, I found most of it overblown and just plain boring. However, because it was SO highly recommended and everyone was singing its praises, I figured there must be something wrong with my reading tastes that I just could not get into this book. Bleah, boring.
I have not watched the movie because I figured seeing famous actors play boring-to-me characters would not make the characters any more interesting, probably just make the actors more boring. :)
Thank you for your honest review and voice of derision!
