Being a Mom

I read Postsecret once a week. People send in anonymous secrets written on postcards, and several are posted on the blog each week. This week, in honor of Mother's Day I guess, the theme is secrets from or about mothers. One of the postcards read "There is nothing I enjoy about being a mother." Wow.
That is inconceivable to me.
Being a mom is hard work, and sometimes it reaches meltdown mode, that's true. Sometimes I feel discouraged, overwhelmed, frustrated. Sometimes I wish I had a little more "me" time, and a few less demands. But I could list a hundred reasons why I enjoy being a mom, and I can't believe there is a person who can't even find one. I'll list 25 off the top of my head right now:
seeing their smile, their tiny arms wrapped around me, hearing them say "mama", watching them discover the world, hearing Ava pray, seeing Nate enjoy petting animals, their mispronounced words, carrying a sleeping child to bed, being a source of calm during a thunderstorm, embracing them after they fall, seeing them run to daddy when he comes home, Ava's sweet singing voice, Nate's constant imitating his sister, their imagination, tiny naked bottoms in the bath tub, the way they smell after a bath, dreaming about their futures, learning about God from them, watching them open a present, Ava helping me bake cookies, watching cartoons together on Saturday morning, rocking Ava to sleep, reading Dr. Suess, uncontrolled laughing fits, and running my hand through Ava's curls.
There. And this is only from the first 3 years. The list will just grow and grow as they do!

Those were all great things to love about being a mom. And since I happen to know those 2 kids so well, they all made perfect sense to me! You (and Cody!) are giving those kids a wonderful sense of self worth and self image, not to mention self esteem......carol
