I am shocked at the level of attention, courtesy, and even generosity Ava and I experienced this afternoon at Cool Cuts 4 Kids in Richardson. I dread the hair salon visit because Ava has been known to be a teeny bit "difficult". She does not like the cape (we skip it and let hair get all over us), she needs to sit in my lap, she must be distracted by a video, water may not be sprayed directly on her hair, the stylist must warm up carefully and gently to her before Ava allows her to come near, etc. Today we had the best stylist ever- Julie. She was laid back, and took her time letting Ava get comfortable. She put the Barney movie in right away. She kept talking to us and showering Ava with compliments. She was steady and gentle. Ava was completely relaxed and even happy. Then, Julie told us she had just bought some hair bows, and that one of them would look just perfect in Ava's hair if we wanted it. I was doubtful. Ava hardly ever likes anything in her hair. But Julie worked her magic and Ava was more than willing to allow this beautiful whispy pony tail holder with long flowing white things that had colorful flowers on the ends to be put in her hair. She looked like a princess. Julie just gave it to us, and thanked us over and over for such a fun experience- all the while we were saying the exact same thing. It was a magical time- maybe it was because the shop had been almost dead empty all day and the stylists were overflowing with patience and energy. Maybe Julie is just one of those special people who really likes her job and it shows. I can tell you we will certainly be requesting her next time, and I recommend her to everyone with young kids.

WOW! didn't know you were thinking about taking Ava for another cut. Sounds like you had fun and Ava was really at ease. I would be finding out when this girl works and making appts with her if possible. Can't wait to see it! The hair bow sounds cute! Our small group met here at 4-6 as the O'Banons had another committment at 6. We didn't go eat with the Hardins as Mary Sue was not feeling well and we had eaten at Carrabba's so not really hungry. I sewed this afternoon and guess we will watch a Magnun PI later. carol
We have the same problem with haircuts. Todd's ear was cut pretty bad on his 3rd haircut and he still remembers it! He hates to have over his ears cut now. We have had to try all kinds of things. I understan where you are coming from! Wished we could find someone that great!
Becky, we had the exact opposite on Friday! I had planned on taking the boys to Sports Clips Friday afternoon to get their cuts, but Sammy also needed a cut, so we decided to wait for him & all go together that evening. Sammy prefers to go to Fantastic Sam's, so that is where I ended up taking the boys, too. We walked in at 6 pm & were promptly told that she was the only stylist & they closed in one hour. She then looked at all 5 of us & asked, "How many of you are getting a haircut?" At that point, Sammy was ready to turn around & leave because she had not bothered to say one nice thing to us. But I told her it would only be the 3 boys. Then, she again reminded us that since she was the only one, it could take a while. She proceeded to be impatient with Samuel, who was already hesitant about getting a cut. And, Nicholas, who has had several cuts & has been great for all of them, threw the biggest fit! She kept suggesting that maybe he was tired or hungry. I wanted to tell her that actually, he probably just didn't want to have her touching his head. But, I bit my tongue and told her to just forget about cutting Nick's hair. It was terrible! She was rude & impatient & just downright sloppy with Samuel's hair! I will NEVER go there again!!
