Whenever my children make a huge mess and I am tempted to blow a gasket, I run for my camera instead. That has defused many a situation. For example, today when Nate went rumaging through the pantry (as he often does) and spilled a huge canister of small black beans all over the floor, I knew it was a photo opportunity. Who can help but smile at the sight of him sitting in all those beans? It didn't take long to sweep them up, and I had been meaning to throw them out anyway because they were really old. He just sped up the process for me.
