Grocery Store

Last night, I took the kids to the grocery store for my weekly trip. Cody was at work late, and I really wanted to get it done. Unfortunately, they were out of the fun carts my kids love that have a little car attached. So, the kids had to walk beside me as I shopped. Not fun for them or me. Ava kept darting in front of the cart and I was so afraid I would run into her. I had already scolded her about it four or five times. Finally, the next time she dashed in front of the cart I said (in a very loud voice), "Stop that or I am going to hit you!" As soon as I said it, I realized how awful it sounded, especially since she was standing there with a cast and sling already! After a brief pause I clarified, "with the cart! Mama might bump into you with the cart!" So, hopefully no worried onlookers called CPS to report an abusive mother.

Oh my goodness... I took all the kids with me yesterday to the store also. If there is ever a place & time when I feel I might be justified in beating my kids, it would be at the grocery store!! (Just so all of you know... I've never beaten my kids! But, the thought has certainly crossed my mind in the middle of Kroger!) I'm sure all the other shoppers think I am an angry, sour person, because all I seem to do is give threatening looks to my kids ALL the time! "Samuel, leave your brother alone... Sydney, we are not buying princess snacks... Nicholas, stop yelling!!"

Ha! That made me laugh! I think the solution here is that the grocery store needs to invest in more of the fun carts - everyone benefits!

I've noticed that most people in the store with kids seem stressed out or ticked off. I know I will be one of those stressed out people someday.
