Guts
I was watching the second half of The Bachelor last night on TV. I know, I know, high quality television. About 8 girls were sitting around talking, and one of them tossed out the question "How old were you when you lost your virginity?" to the group. A few answers were tossed back. Then one girl, when pressed about it, answered that she was saving hers for marriage. If you could have seen the faces on the other girls. Some looked shocked, some rolled their eyes. She actually took a bit of heat about it, and finally asked if they could change the subject. That takes guts to confess on national TV that you're staying sexually pure until marriage. I find it sad that sexual promiscuity is applauded and sexual self-control is an embarrassment. That was a sobering reminder to me that my kids are going to get bombarded with certain messages from the world around them. I hope I can supply them with the guts to one day stand counter-cultural as well.
