Ooooooo, Gross!

Both kids are sick. Coughing, running nose, fever kind of sick. I took them to the pediatrician today and he assured me it's only a cold. Hopefully after a few days of over the counter meds it will be gone. However, when he looked in Ava's ears, he told me there were some rather large balls of wax in each one. He said he thought he could remove them, so he took out a long skinny tool to scoop into her ears. As he worked on the first ear, she didn't cry at all, and out came a gross glob of dark wax. Then, he did the second ear...and she did cry. And after a moment he produced the hugest, darkest, grossest ball of wax I have ever seen. It was the diameter of a pencil, at least, and looked like a pebble. She must be feeling so good now to have those awful things out of her ears! She can probably hear 10 times better as well! What is strange about this is that several weeks ago Ava was complaining that her ear hurt. I looked into it with a flashlight and thought I saw a rock in her ear. But after close examination I decided that it must be just the dark expanse of her ear I was seeing, not a rock. Apparently, though, it WAS a rock-like ball of wax after all. Oh the wonderful things produced by a child's body- it doesn't just stop with poop and vomit, folks!
