Dinner Disaster
I've made the same broccoli cheese soup recipe a dozen times. It has always turned out perfectly...until tonight. I really don't know what went wrong. Maybe the cheese I bought was defective. When I added the shredded cheddar it would NOT melt into the soup. It has always melted fine before. But tonight, there were clumps of gummy looking cheese all through it. Some very large clumps of half-way melted cheese. It looked terrible. It didn't taste much better. We ate it anyway. At one point I got a rather large clump of cheese in my mouth and I chewed and chewed on it for a little while. It was just like gum. I finally spit it out. Has anyone else ever had a cheese disaster?

Was it the same brand cheese you always buy? I know sometimes I have trouble with fat free cheeses.
Sorry, it is always frustrating to go through the time and trouble to home cook something, anticipating it, and then it not turning out well and you thinking you have to apologize to your family for not getting it right. My mistake is usually overcooking. But I am sure you have more good nights than bad, and if Cody is like Steve, he just appreciates your love and efforts.
That has happened to me, although not with cheese. I was making a stir-fry, which I had done before with success but I was using a new sauce and when I was done, it tasted horrible. Now I know what sauce not to use on my stir fry! That may be the only time that I've cooked dinner, thrown it away and went out to eat.
I have burnt the cheese in a cheese soup I made in the past. I loved teh soup when the cheese was not burned - but after I burned the cheese it tasted so bad I cannot bring myself to make the soup again.
