It's a cliche, I know. Everyone always says kids grow up so fast. But it is so true. I don't see how two years could have already passed since I was holding a skinny-legged newborn boy in the hospital. Sometimes I think life must be set on fast-forward. That wrinkly, squinty-eyed baby has been replaced with a rambunctious, cat-terrorizing, independent 2 year old with a smile that melts hearts. He likes trains, so we had a train party for him today.
Here he is using the remote control of the new train set we got for him. He's so adorable that you might never guess he is actually about to rip that hat off his head and throw it to the floor. He wasn't interested in the engineer caps I got for him and his friends.
However, he was quite interested in the balloons. Most kids are drawn to balloons like magnets, and Nate is no exception. He's been pulling the balloons around by their long strings all day long.
And although this photo was actually taken yesterday, I had to include it. I am a little partial, I know, but I see future heartthrob written all over him. And at the rate we seem to be going, he'll be all grown up before I know it.
That's why I love these kinds of celebrations and milestones. I want to pause and drink in the wonder of these unique little humans that God has graciously allowed me to mother. The daily routine sometimes clouds my eyes to the intricate, awe-inspiring qualities of my children and our relationship together. I like having days to just focus on them- their distinct personalities, achievements, preferences, how far they have come and where they seem to be headed. It was a sweet day spent celebrating a sweet boy.

neat pics and sweet message. the cake is adorable (but the boy even moreso, of course).
It is hard to believe that it has been 2 years since I saw Nate in the hospital after he was born. Time really does fly by!!!
