Just Watching the Game

I realized the other night that Cody and I watch basketball very differently. We both focus on the action, but my eye goes a step further. I end up making a lot of comments throughout the game on the attitude and physical appearance of the players/coaches. Here are some of the comments I remember making during the Dallas vs. Houston game a few nights ago.

Jerry Stackhouse has such deep-set eyes and his brow sticks out way over them. He kind of looks like a caveman.

Look at those bags under Jeff Van Gundy's eyes- I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.

I think Tracy McGrady looks like a zombie. Sometimes when they show his face I swear all I can see are the whites of his eyes.

And then I started thinking that most of the things I notice are negative. That makes me wonder about myself. Am I that critical? I don't think I regularly notice flaws in the people around me in my daily life, so why is it when I watch basketball my eyes are drawn to these kinds of things?

I tend to do the same thing. I think it's because so many of these men are put on a pedestal that is WAY too high - so it's a natural tendency to want to take them down a notch. Possibly? Just a thought!
