Why?

Ok, you can still post a comment on my last post- because I DO want to hear from you...
but moving on...
Why do books come out in hardcover first, then paperback much later? I have never thought about this until today. Who decided that was the way to do it? How long has it been this way?
Is it sort of like the difference between seeing a movie when it is first released vs. waiting to watch it at the dollar movies in a few months? I think I prefer paperback books slightly. Why should I have to wait to get a book in the format I like best?

I don't know why either. My guess is they are trying to get as much money out of us as possible! That was my hold up on choosing "The Thirteenth Tale" since it was only in hardcover. What a pain!

Because the hardbacks are more expensive, of course! It's always aout the money! I don't know if you remember, but when DVDs were brand new, there were some movies that came out on DVD before they were released on VHS. They didn't do that very long, but I do remember them doing that.
