Annoying

I went to the dentist this morning and have two annoying things to write about as a result. The first, and lesser of the two, is how I hate it when magazines do not have page numbers on all of their pages. I see a blurb on the front cover about an article I want to read. Great. First, I have to search through all the pages of ads at the beginning of the magazine for the elusive Table of Contents. Finally, I find out what page the article is on, but as I flip through the magazine I don't see any page numbers! What is really embarrassing is that I have no concept of how far into the magazine page 99, for example, would be. Is it near the back? The front? I still have not found a single page number as a frame of reference. Ads, ads, more ads. I'm flipping like a mad-woman, trying to find the article before they call me back to get my teeth cleaned. Why can't magazines be a little more user friendly? My favorite thing is those magazines that have the page number printed next to the front cover blurbs. Then at least you can skip the Table of Contents and cut your search time down to 5-10 minutes.
But even more annoying than scrambling through a magazine like an idiot, is the feeling that my dentist is trying to cheat me. Cody and I are starting to suspect that our dentist is pushing treatments on us that are not really necessary in order to make more money. Today I was told I need two crowns on teeth that were not even mentioned 6 months ago at my last cleaning. I asked how there had been such a drastic change in such a short time and was told that things can change that quickly. I am just not sure. I think I am going to get a second opinion before I have any more work done. So if anyone has a great dentist they want to recommend, please email me!

I had the same feeling with the last dentist that I went to, so I will never go back. I need to find a new one too. Why does it seem like dentists are the worst at scamming people?

That would really stink if your dentist would say you needed something you didn't. I love my dentist. I've been going to the same place since my very first dentist visit as a kid. He's right down the street from you guys too. I'll email his info to you just in case you want to check him out. Obviously your insurance would have to be compatible.

Rachel,

Can you send me that info also?

I have a great dentist but he's in Alabama! I've had a couple of crowns done. Most everyone I know that has had a crown has to have a root canal. My dentist has never even suggested it. Also, I had a crown that chipped. Oh my I'm thinking . . . since it had been done less than 5 years ago, it was replaced for FREE!

Becky,
I go to Dr's Nutt and Pietch on Beltline right next to the McDonalds near Plano Road. Steve and I have been going there for about 8 years and have been pleased with them. I will have to admit they have also suggested crowns but tell me that everyone who has fillings is being recommended for crowns. I am thinking it must be so or the insurance would not just cover them. But when I had my accident and went off the church insurance I lost dental insurance (we don't get it through Steve's work) and while they still recommend the crowns there is no pressure for me to get them. This is a great family friendly office with the sweetest of staff. Several other people from church go there as well.

Becky - I had that happen with an optometrist when we first moved to Nashville. He said I needed bifocals...I was 22. I called him on it and he got furious. I ended up reported the guy to my insurer who ultimately cut him off their list of approved providers.

Our dentist is the only one I have ever gone to that did not recommend that ultra cleaning thing they do. He says that it benefits some people, but most do just as well with the regular, less expensive cleaning. That right there was a hit with me!! I can email you their name and number.

Don't get me started on dentists. Ours is just fine, no pressure, and the hygenienst is fabulous (Josh's sister!) BUT We just got a bill from our dentist for a normal visit (cleaning, x-rays) for me, Josh & Emma ... $731 (besides the fact that I paid $30 when I went) apparently out of network. What a mess! We are definitely going to have to switch dentists...our insurance apparently only works for a very select few dentists. Luckily, Sara is going to try help get that bill lowered some! I sure hope so!
