"Hole-y Moley"

Please stay tuned for a public service announcement:

OK ladies (and gentlemen) most of us have at least a few moles (or hundreds in my case), spent our youth getting burnt to a crisp back in the days of "who needs sunscreen?," and have people that love us dearly and would rather we not die of skin cancer.

I want to urge everyone to make a yearly appointment with a dermatologist to get your moles checked. Skin cancer is more common than many people think.

I had been going to a dermatologist for a few years but I didn't think he was doing a very thorough job keeping track of my moles. Plus, I have the kind of moles that just plain look scary- even if they are not. So I switched to a new doctor last month and she is much more proactive. She removed two moles on my first visit. I haven't heard the results yet. It was just last week. But, I'll be glad to know if these are scary looking for no reason or if there is a cancerous reason. I go back next month to get all moles of a certain size/kind measured and charted. That way we can see any growth or change from year to year.

Good for you! If they charted/measured all my moles, I'd be there for a month!! But, you're right... I need to do that someday.

I just got a list of recommended dermatologists from my doctor during my gyno annual visit last week. I've been worried about several of my moles for a while and haven't been in about 11 years! Yikes! Yes, you've reminded me to get on the ball for that appointment!!! If you don't mind, please send me your recommended dermatologist. Thanks!
