Crazy

I now know beyond a doubt that I am certifiably insane. When Cody gets home in about 8 hours at 6 AM Sunday morning he is in for a big surprise. I decided to paint the entryway on a whim while he has been out of town for two days. One may ask, "How can I complete such a labor intensive chore, AND take care of three needy children?" Um, paint a lot after the kids go to bed, and feel very tired the next day. He left Friday morning and about 2 hours later Nate, Lucas, and I were picking out paint at Home Depot. A side note- I love the way Home Depot smells. I can't describe it, but I love it. And there are a lot of really nice gentlemen at Home Depot at 9:30 on a Friday morning. Everybody was talking to us and acting so friendly. I'll have to start going there more often. Anyway, I had a dark brown/green color in mind for the walls. I checked the "Oops Paint" first. Those are the gallons that were mixed and for some reason not sold. They only cost $5 a gallon. Would you believe that out of the 6 or 7 available, one was the exact color I had in mind? I snatched it up, thrilled at the bargain. We bought a few other supplies and headed home. When we first bought our house, 6 years ago, we went on a big painting kick that somehow excluded the entryway, one of the ugliest rooms of all. For 6 long years, the first thing people saw upon entering our home was a drab, colorless, peeling paint, dingy room. But that is all changed now. Well, almost changed. I got most of it finished but still have some trim work to do. And it is not happening tonight folks. I am absolutely worn out from my other crazy endeavor. I took all three kiddos to a pumpkin festival in uptown by myself. We rode the train, and had a blast. But, I am exhausted. I'll have lots to say about this fun out-ting (and some super pics!) on another post. My original plan was to be completely done by the time Cody got home. But, I think 85% is acceptable. Oh, and he'll have to help me clean up all the supplies littering the garage floor. And I think I accidentally used our ceiling paint on the wainscoting, doors, and trim. But at least it looks better than it used to!

Plain, boring, Before Picture

Here I am beginning to paint the Wainscoting. I paint the crevices of the panels before rolling on the paint. Look at the difference between the fresh white paint and the dingy old yellow-ish stuff.

AFTER. Guess what. This small entry way has 6, count them SIX doors. If I ever have to paint one more door, I will throw up and I mean it.

Look at my beautiful new metal art. I totally dig this.

As always, painting is a chore that seems easy in theory then turns out to be a massive, gut-wrenching test of endurance. Most people hate painting, and for good reason. If you happen to be one of the few that loves painting, then please come over and help me finish this. I can't wait to see the look of surprise on Cody's face when he gets home. This is absolutely the last thing he would ever expect me to do.

Congratulations! There is no better feeling than that of a sense of accomplishment! I am one of those that don't like to paint, and it is so obvious at my house! My living room and kitchen need some new coats desperately. I know that you will be so pleased to have your entry way done!

Wow - great job! I really like it! I also totally understand the sometimes irrational need to just do something...right now! I've done it before myself.
