Pumpkin Festival

In keeping with my status of "insane" last weekend, I took the kids to the Pumpkin Festival by myself. I asked around to see if anyone wanted to go with us, but there were no takers. Undeterred, I packed up our bag, grabbed the umbrella stroller and drove to the train station. Yes, the four of us had our very first ride on the public transportation system. The kids thought the train was the best thing since cotton candy (another newly discovered favorite.) The train stations are full of really cool elevators, including one that moves on a slow diagonal incline. Here are the kids looking out the windows of that particular elevator.

The only problem with the train is that you have about 5 seconds to get on board, then 1 second to sit down before the train starts. With Lucas in one arm and the stroller in the other, the kids were on their own climbing the steep steps onto the train. We could barely get seated before the train lurched to a start, sending poor light-weight kids flying. That may have been their favorite part, however.

The festival itself was smaller than I had imagined, but still lots of fun. There was face painting, games, free books donated by Half-Price, live music, tons of carved pumpkins, and several food vendors. For dinner, I ate some fabulous Greek food. The kids finished eating before me and spent time dancing to the live music. I was wishing for a video camera because Nate was boogie-ing down big-time much to the enjoyment of every passer-by and me. The tower of pumpkins was really cool, and I also snapped a photo of one pumpkin carved in honor of my favorite non-profit organization that received all the funds raised from this pumpkin festival.

The theme of the event was "Life is Good." And you know what? I completely agree.

I can't beleive you had time to do this AND paint the entryway! I'll bet you also managed to cook healthy meals from scratch three times a day plus some kind of stunning dessert! It was probably YOU that carved that incredibly cool CDM pumpkin, too! Honestly, you astound me!
