This year, I finally bought one of those gingerbread house kits. It came with instructions for making gingerbread and icing and how to put it all together. It also had all the cutters needed. Last night I cut and baked all the pieces so the kids could put together the house and decorate it this morning. It was lots of fun! I would give them several ideas, and they would choose how to place the candies. I had to help a lot, but they did a lot of the work themselves. I think it turned out cute. It's a surprise for Daddy when he gets home today. As a daddy, he is going to be pleased. As a structural engineer, however, I am afraid he might find some fault with our joints. They did not all fit together perfectly, so we had to use lots of icing at every corner. They don't use icing much in his line of work, so maybe he won't notice.
please try to ignore the super mess in the floor behind the action. darn, that probably made your eyes go straight to it.
note the concentration. gingerbread house building is not for the faint of heart.
I've got to say that making a gingerbread house is harder than I imagined. Preparing, rolling, and cutting the dough was tricky. I think I would improve with practice, though. And I think I'm going to get it because I can see this
becoming a yearly tradition.

Love it!!! You and the kids did a great job!!! I was thinking about getting a kit with the gingerbread pieces pre-made (yes, I am a weanie!) to make with the kids.
It turned out great! I love making gingerbread houses. Placing the candy is definitely my favorite part...making the actual house stay together with icing is not! I was thinking about making one myself this year!
It looks great! They always look so fun to me! I'm not sure if mine would stand on it's own though. I guess we'll see someday.
You all did a wonderful job!
Looks like the kids had a great time and it turned out so cute the gingerbread men and tree and all. Special memories!
Becky,
It looks awesome! The kids will never remember a little mess on the floor, but boy will they remember a fun day building gingerbread houses!!
