The Lie

Please don't believe it.
Even though you probably hear this message from all sorts of sources almost constantly, please remember that it is not true.
As one friend put it to me- in words I find chilling- it is a strategic plan of the enemy.

The lie is that all religions/faiths/spiritual practices, however you want to put it, are equally valid and true. Basically, all paths lead to God. If you stand against that claim and say that Jesus, God's Son died on the cross and rose again in order to provide forgiveness for us and a connection to his Father God and therefore belief in Him is the only way to have salvation and a relationship with God, people will call you narrow-minded. They will say you have no right to say Jesus is absolute truth. They will say you are limiting God. But actually, you are only believing God. The scary thing is that the people saying these things to you might even be Christians. How a Christian can be a Christian and yet say that Jesus is not the only path to God is beyond me. Really, it is quite illogical. It would make the entire point of Christianity pointless to follow a person/deity whose claims you don't believe.

There is such a thing as false gods. Just because a person believes he is worshiping God, doesn't make it necessarily so. Our sincerity doesn't make up for misguided beliefs.

Now, I am only making one statement of truth here. That Jesus' death and resurrection is God's plan for salvation. That's it. I am not saying that I hold all answers to every mystery or question about baptism, communion, women's roles in the church, homosexuality, instrumental music, miracles, grace, etc. Really, I don't want to split hairs with anyone over these things. I think there is a ton- an unimaginable amount of grace involved here that transcends our petty disagreements. The endless bickering and cruel divisions over these issues is an embarrassment and plague on Christians. But I am not going to back down from the truth that Jesus is God's Son, our Savior, and the essential key to God's plan of redeeming all humanity.

Amen. It's one thing to respect (and all that goes along with that) others' views. It's another thing to say that I can't have convictions or beliefs because of that respect. I have three guesses as to what sparked this thought of yours.
