Lately, I've felt the preschool set might think my blog is a little boring, but that's all going to change tonight. This Music Monday is for all the apple juice drinking, nose picking, tantrum throwing, sharing impaired, wide-eyed, and yes, let's face it, adorable little grubby handed kids. My own preschoolers used to love a show called The Backyardigans. It was on Saturday mornings on CBS about a year ago, but then CBS changed their line-up. They exchanged some awesome shows that my kids loved for some shabby junk that we won't watch. And since we don't have cable, we can never watch The Backyardigans again (I think it's on Nick Jr.) sniff sniff.
The reason I loved The Backyardigans was because every episode was filled with incredible songs. And all of these songs were in completely different styles. It was a great way to expose my kids to music of all genres. The songs were downright catchy, well written, and well-sung by some talented kids. Those kids they hired to do the voice work on that show were awesome. (Believe me when I say, there is a lot of music out there that is sung quite poorly by children. It's not always easy to find a good example of singing for your kids to hear.)
One of my favorite songs from that series is a "Rockabilly Lullaby" called "Hush."
Now some people find the animated creatures, and their little dances, a bit disturbing. So if that happens to you, I recommend closing your eyes and just concentrating on the music. You won't be disappointed.

Love Backyardigans! Very cute show! Yes, they do have some fun songs with a wide variety of music styles. I love the fact that both my 2 year old and 6 year old enjoy the show.
We love this show too! My kids love the singing and dancing, and I love the often very clever and funny lyrics!
