Music Monday

So far I've been concentrating on classic rock, country, blues, etc. Suddenly this morning I was reminded of a completely different genre that I have so far ignored. Actually, I was reminded of two genres, but I can only do one today! The first thing that came to mind is Disney songs. Think of all the fabulous Disney movies over the past 80 years. I could name 2 or 3 favorite songs from almost every movie. Someday My Prince Will Come, Be Our Guest, Kiss the Girl, A Spoonful of Sugar, The Bare Necessities...I could go on and on. One of my favorite Disney songs actually comes from one of my least favorite Disney movies. I never cared much for Pete's Dragon. I think Cody really liked it as a kid. I'm sure lots of people do like this movie. But I have seen it a few times and don't like it much. It does have an incredible song, though. From the moment I first heard this song I felt touched, and admired it. I sort of think of it as an anthem of love and friendship. So, I hope you enjoy listening to it today and thinking of all the times you have stood by a friend during a tough time or have had someone stand by you.

Candle on the Water from Pete's Dragon, 1977
(Just listen, and don't watch the dumb video. It is unrelated.)

We sang this song in choir in high school and it was a beautiful arrangement...just the girls. And I have a special place in my heart for Pete's Dragon, although it is possible that the best thing about it is this song!

Oh, I love this song! But, like you, I don't like the movie. And I found it very strange accompanied by the montage of clips from Dark Shadows, an old TV show about vampires!

Maybe I'm weird, but I loved Pete's Dragon when I was a kid. We only had about three movies at my house, and that was one of them. My brother and I would watch it over and over and I think I could still sing all of the words to all of the songs. This is a great song!
