Yep, I'm two days late.
Oh well.
Last time I was saying that I had thought of two new genres of music to share. The first was Disney songs. The second, and my focus for today, is musicals. There are so many good musicals out there. My favorite one is a bit obscure. I have always loved the musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. It is full of great songs and choreography. The story is wonderful. I love everything about it. I've watched the movie dozens of times and I never get tired of it.
Some of the best songs are Lonesome Polecat, Goin' Courtin', Sobbin' Women, and They Say if You Marry in June to name a few. But instead of sharing one of those songs I am going to share the best dance scene. A little background: There are seven backwoods brothers with rough manners. One of them goes to town, marries a girl, and brings her back to their backwoods home. She determines to teach the remaining 6 brothers how to be more civilized. They visit town again and the 6 brothers set their sights on some townswomen they like. But those women have city suitors. At the barn raising dance, the brothers and city suitors "fight" over the right to dance with the women. The women are definitely leaning toward the hunky backwoodsmen, and I don't blame them. Those city guys look like losers.
Anyway, go to youtube sometime and listen to some of the other songs I listed. You won't be disappointed. Better yet, just rent the musical on dvd. It's sooooooo good.

Love this movie. It was on AMC or TCM a couple of days ago. It reminds me of my brothers-in-law! :)
Funny, I just watched this movie on TCM the other day in the motel. It is pretty funny. I really like the scene when all the girls are hiding because they don't want the boys to take them back. It is a fun musical, but then I think most of those musicals from that time period are good (Oklahoma,Music Man, State Fair, South Pacific, etc. Glad you posted even 2 days late, I had been checking to see what this week's choice was. Enjoy seeing what you choose for Music Monday.
Ha! Jim and I were just talking about this movie because we passed over it on the TV guide and Jim said, "No, Allison!" Which was fine because I own it and can watch it any time I want! Yea!
