Ava's Art

There are always about 3 million papers scattered over our house. The highest concentration is on the dining room table where the kids routinely draw on white printer paper. Every day I throw lots of papers into the recycling basket. I have to hide them down under the newspapers because the kids can't stand the thought of me throwing away their pictures. I don't like throwing them away either, but I really don't have space for billions of papers. I do keep some of their artwork, however, like this wonderful story I found today. I didn't even know Ava had made this. She did it completely on her own.

Notice the small box in the upper right corner. Ava likes to pretend that the books she creates are part of a series. She often writes on the back of the last page "See these other books" and then lists some other titles. Apparently this is the "Wild Petz" series. So I would imagine there might be some sequels to "Wild Pet Town." Perhaps "Wild Pets on Parade" or "Wild Pets at the Grocery Store." You just never know. Also, please note the bows on the cats ears. I am digging those.

A few more interesting observations. First of all, I was a bit surprised at the plot twist at the end when dog "got kids." That came out of the blue! I asked Ava what happened, and she told me he had puppies. It's nice to able to talk with the author and get a sense of what exactly she had in mind while penning the story. Secondly, I don't know why she always draws a large colored-in circle under "the end." It's the same with every book. I haven't asked her about it because I had already asked several questions and didn't want to bug her. You know how authors can become testy when they feel that someone doesn't "get" their work.

Love the story. Ava is my favorite kind of author - giving me an ending I did not expect. She is a very smart girl.

Great story! I'm so impressed! Little kids amaze me! I had teenage students who could not have pulled off that story, and those who could wouls have complained about their stupid teacher and her ridiculoously high demands on their writing skilld!
