TIVO= the Way to Go

Have I sung the praises of TIVO on my blog before? Surely I have since I think it's the best invention since indoor plumbing. I got a TIVO for Christmas, and it revolutionized my television viewing in wonderful ways. I now watch episodes of M.A.S.H. that come on at 1 AM whenever I feel like it! I snag episodes of Barney or Curious George for the kids. No more setting the VCR to record LOST or The Office which come on right during the kids' bath time and bed time. Everything is automatic. And one of the best features is being able to fast forward through commercials. I've said all this to announce that TIVO is the best way to watch the 4-5 hour coverage of the Olympics in the evening. I love the Olympics, but sitting on the couch for 5 hours is a whip. I've found that the 5 hours of coverage can easily be brought down to 1-2 when fast forwarding through commercials, the time standing around waiting for scores, and any annoying Bob Costas monologues. So I wait until 9:30 to begin watching and by 10:30 I've caught up with live tv. But then I am so caught up in the action that I end up staying up until 11:30 to watch the rest of the coverage in agonizingly slow real time. I can't stay up that late every night. I must admit: I am old and weak. I think I am going to have to admit to myself that there's just no way I can view all of the Olympics that I want to view. I already miss the entire day time programming. Even with TIVO I have my limits of just how much television I can stand to watch and how much time I have to do it.

I agree with you, tivo is great! I can not stay up this late every night (and get up in the middle of the night to tend to Audrey) and get up early in the morning. The Olympics are killing me! But I can't tear myself away from the tv when these athletic feats are so incredible!

I love DVR! That is exactly how we have been watching the Olympics, which I love!

To me, Tivo is like my cell phone - how on earth did I ever live without it?? Even with Tivo, I have had a hard time getting through all of the Olympic coverage. I'm not used to 11 pm bedtimes!
