I just got home from a wonderful Ladies' Retreat experience, and I might have a few thoughts about that to share later. However, tonight I want to share a little story about some adventures that happened here at home while I was away. Last night Cody had put the kids to bed and was watching the movie Planet of the Apes. The movie was getting to a fairly intense part when he heard a noise in our kitchen. He figured it was Nate up out of bed sneaking around. (Wouldn't be the first time.) But he looked over and didn't see Nate anywhere. What he did see was an enormous possum walking from the kitchen toward the living room. I'll just be honest here and say it scared him pretty bad. And we're lucky I wasn't home because seeing that would have killed me. He had left the sliding glass doors to the backyard open earlier by accident and that possum had come in at some point! As he's telling me about this, my jaw is falling open and my mind is racing. I just can't even believe it. I'm still a little fuzzy about how he got the thing out of the house. Then he tells me that during the day today they were all playing in the sun room when Lucas looked out onto the back patio and started saying "Mouse! Mouse!" and pointing his finger wildly. Cody said he knew before even looking that it just had to be that possum. It was. And the thing walked up to the glass doors and stood there like a pet waiting to be let in! Cody showed the kids the possum, with the door closed thank goodness (I did ask about that...) Then he went out to scare it away. It ran right under our patio where it apparently lives. I'm still just trying to digest the fact that there was a huge possum in my kitchen. I can't wrap my mind around it.
Anyway, we plan to borrow my father-in-law's live trap and politely remove our guest from our yard. Nate will probably be sad because he's been asking for a pet (preferably a dog but I think he would take a possum) for some time now.

I'm with Nate - I would want to keep it ;)
Scary though! We used to have them in our backyard all of the time in Texas. Had one on the back porch when living on the south side of Chicago.
Those little boogers make a really yucky noise too. I had 2 under my house keeping me awake at night once. Guess I'll have to remove my Becky Best Mom award now that I know you won't let Nate have such a special pet :)
AYE YI YI< BECKY!!!!!
That is crazy!!!! Luckily, you weren't home!!! How did Cody get it out? I guess with a beautiful natural backyard and view, comes real nature! I can tell you the story of how I trapped an armadillo once and moved him to another area to get it out of the yard! That was an adrenaline rush as well!
Ewwwwwwwww! I would have LOST MY MIND if I had looked up and seen a possum in my house!
