Am I the Only One?

Ok people. I'm going to be honest here even if it makes everyone renounce me as their friend. I don't like Disney World. I've been there once in high school. It was alright. It wasn't magical. It wasn't the best vacation of my life. I have no desire to go back. I might take the kids one day, but then again I might not. It just isn't my idea of a family dream vacation. Almost everyone else around me seems to LOVE Disney. People even go there on their honeymoons! Their honeymoons, people! Now that is something I would never consider in a million years. I know, I know, "to each his own...", but my idea of a good honeymoon would involve way less crowds and lots more nature. It's just that I've heard so many people going ga-ga over Disney World lately that I am starting to wonder if I am the only one that thinks it's less than amazing. I can list about two dozen places I would rather take my family on vacation before I'd settle for Disney World. I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad for loving Disney...like I've said, it seems like 99% of people do. So I am wondering what is the big deal about it? You might want to take this opportunity to let me know why Disney World is so special and why I am crazy not to love it. Or maybe you are a secret Disney hater like me and this is your chance to come out of the closet.

I went to Disney World with another family when I was about 12 years old. I thought it was pretty and wonder how I would like it as an adult. I, however, am not a fan of Disney movies. Probably because I dislike most things animated.

I am positively sure that you are not the only one to hate Disney World, but I'm sorry that I can't join you myself. I LOVE Disney World. I went twice as a younger child and twice as a teenager. Although, truthfully, there ARE at least two things I DON'T like about it...the lines and the crowds. But, for me, the rest of it just outweighs all of that. I love that they create these little micro-worlds that really can take you away to another place. For some reason, I really love mini-worlds. Even the mini-safety town our fire station has next to it for kids. Anyway, that is what is magical for me about DW. I love Epcot and the World Showcase, which most people do not love. I don't even go to Disney World mostly because of the rides...no, it's the look and feel of the place that captures me. I don't see an amusement park with concrete sidewalks and long lines...I see an imaginative place where just around the corner you can be in the Swiss Family Robinson tree house and then in a futuristic world the next minute. That's what is fun for me. But, by the way...I AM with you about the honeymoon thing. As much as I love Disney World, I would never go there on my honeymoon.

Ok Rachel posted it perfectly! I totally agree - not a honeymoon place. I probably will not take my kids there though - at least not any time soon. It is so expensive and I can think of lots of other fun places to take them for a lot less. Hopefully I can take them at some point but it will not break my heart if I can't b/c there are lots of fun places to go - Just being together is fun.

Well - I can't really say that I don't like it because I've never been. However, I've never had the desire either and definitely not for a honeymoon. Dustin and I have talked about going with Ashton, but we're not 100% gung ho about it.

OK. Kevin and I spent our honeymoon at Disney World.....and LOVED it! It was a great place to have fun and just relax...no pressures and tons of stuff to do! We enjoy vacations with lots of activities and not just sitting around, so it was perfect for us!

I'm with you (mostly) Becky... I don't get why adults want to spend their honeymoon there. I've always thought it strange, but, to each her/his own.
My parents took us as teenagers (so we would be old enough to remember) and it was a blast. I went on a few HS trips there and that was awesome too. So I'd take kids (older)... thats the other thing I don't get, why do people take infants to Disney? I'm not a parent but it just seems insane to me.

I went to disney world when I was 13. We were there for 4 days, it was pretty fun my, one night my cousin and I rode space mountan 10 times in a row (it was right before closing and no lines), but I have no desire to go back, maybe if I lived close.

And God help me, but if I have a little girl some day, I'm going to do my best to shield her from the disney princess mania that seems to be everywhere!

I LOVE DisneyWorld! AND I went there for my honeymoon! I am now 50 years old. I went a couple of times in my younger years - yes it's been open that long! The first time I went as an adult was 1990. I took my kids. This was a bittersweet trip - my husband had died a year earlier. We had a good time, but we still had a giant void in our lives. I went back once more, with older kids, as an adult. AND then I remarried in 2003. My Russian husband had never been to DisneyWorld. I can't begin to tell you how much FUN we had! It was a magical time in all respects. This time, I got to be the kid. We ate at Cinderella's Castle. We absolutely loved it. Animal Kingdom is okay but I wouldn't have to go every time I went down. Magic Kingdom is great. Epcot is great. Downtown Disney is great. Don't go when it's HOT. That's also the best way to avoid the crowds. We went in September, and the crowds weren't bad at all. I've also went in mid-November -- also a great time. It is not fun when it's very crowded and hot. HOW SOON CAN I GO BACK??

I am right there with you, Becky. I think Disney World is a fun place, but I'm not overly crazy about it. My parents took me when I was 8, and I already thought it was pretty cheesy. Chris and I went about 4 years ago on a band trip to Disney Land. It was ok, but honestly, we were good to just sit around and relax quite a bit of the time and not fight lines, etc. I will probably take Caleb when he gets older just to have the experience, but I'd be ok if I never went there again.

Well, being that we are going in ONE WEEK I can't say I hate it--but I can say I am not an obsessed Disney fan. I definitely agree on the honeymoon issue. I never went as a child, only once as an adult and it was just for a few days. I am not a fan of roller coasters so that part is lost on me. I do like all the sites, Epcot especially, and I am anxious to see it all through my boys' eyes! This will not be an annual trip however. In the last two years we've been to the beach and the snowy mountains so this seemed like a good time and good ages for us to try Disney (plus they are running great specials---thanks bad economy!) I agree that there are so many other places to see and things to do why go to the same place year after year?

Well, you know I'm a fan of Disney, although not like I used to be! We did got there for our honeymoon, but I regret it now. We had fun, but it wasn't right for us as a honeymoon. I do however really look forward to taking the kids someday. It's just a fun, beautiful place to be! But it's not the ONLY fun. beautiful place to be! It would never be our regular vacation destination like it is for some people!
