A Study in Contrasts

On a whim, Cody decided to take the boys to the family ranch for the day on Saturday. He packed up some snacks, lunch, changes of clothes (just in case), sunscreen, books and toys. He and the boys took off before 7 AM to meet up with Grandad for the 4 hour journey. Since the boys were headed off to work and play on the farm, Ava and I decided to have a girls' day here in town. We started off by painting our nails. Then we went to a lovely birthday party. Then, we met up with friends and visited Sam Moon for the first time. Oh my. My, my, my.

Sam Moon was fabulous. I was dazzled by the bling, and rock-bottom pricing. Ava and her friend were drawn to every shiny rainbow colored gemstone covered eye piercing item. I was drawn to this nice little stack of bracelets.
Meanwhile, the boys were enduring temperatures of 108 while hard at work installing a deer stand. Here they pause for a rest by the lone, creaky swing by the farmhouse.
While the boys sweated, Ava found a delightfully purple hat covered in rhinestones. It really spoke to her.
Yes, the farmhouse has running water inside, but this outdoor pump is reminiscent of the olden days. I'm willing to bet the boys peed outside at least once also.
Back at home, I model an eclectic, asymmetric necklace that cost a fraction of what it might have cost at a regular store. I feel pretty. Oh so pretty.
Unbeknownst to me, my youngest practiced shooting a BB gun at the ranch. No small animals were injured and no eyes were put out. Feeling thankful about that.
Even though she adored her new hair bows, her bottle cap necklace with her initial on it, and her headbands...I think the seashell themed anklet was Ava's favorite find of the day. It's colorful and a bit over the top, which suits her perfectly.
So, there we have it folks. Boys day out and girls day out. The Ranch vs. Sam Moon. Gun toting sweaty-ness and sparkly accessory grabbing at it's finest. And a good time was had by all.
