Do you ever think about how you spend roughly one third of your life asleep? That is a really big chunk of time. Sometimes I wonder why our bodies were made this way. Why do we need to spend time in a deep resting state? As the mother of a four month old, (and a two year old who hasn't quite mastered sleeping through the night for that matter) I think about sleep a lot. It's a unifying force- everybody has to have it. It doesn't matter how rich or powerful or educated one is. It makes me think of our body as some kind of giant rechargable battery.
