Celebration

Yesterday my husband turned 30. I have had all sorts of special treats, surprises, and gifts set up for him during the course of the weekend. One main surprise came to fruition Friday night as two of his best buds from college showed up on our doorstep. He hasn't spent time with them in years. I secretly arranged their trip and had my video camera rolling as Cody opened the door in utter shock. The three of them had a "guys day out" Saturday afternoon and really enjoyed catching up with each other. We all met up with Cody's parents and brother for a special dinner out Saturday night followed by gift opening and cake here at home. Tonight we'll have a little pizza party with our small group Bible study friends- the final celebration of the 3 day long 30th birthday extravaganza. Doesn't it feel good to be surrounded by family and friends, enjoying life and celebrating together? My heart has been full of joy all weekend just thinking about all the people that are dear to Cody and me. Good moments spent together as we swap stories and laughter. We watch Ava dance around the room and jump with excitement as we pass around Baby Nate and talk about how sweet he is. There is something deeply satisfying about reveling in the company of people you love. That's one of the reasons I enjoy Sunday morning church so much. We're a family...catching up with each other about the past week, swapping some stories and laughter, and deep down feeling that love for each other- a sweet bond of fellowship. We know we've got each other's backs. We know there are people we can truly count on. We don't feel isolated. Reveling in the company of people you love. And just think- it will all come to perfection one day in Heaven. What a celebration THAT is going to be!
