I just read this book and didn't find it funny as much as I did sad. I thought it would be more of a comedy style book. And yes, parts of the book were funny, but overall it was heart-breaking. The lives of the filthy rich parents were falling into shambles, and they were treating people like dirt (including their own children). I ached for the child that was ignored by his parents and left to the nanny, or school, or lessons...when the entire time all he wanted was his parents' affection. It was a good reminder that children are not commodities to tuck away or dispense to others. Children want their parents. I am a firm believer that if a couple doesn't have the time to properly devote to children, then they shouldn't have them! Not everyone is cut out to be a parent. Yet, society assumes everyone should be having kids. Admit it, childless couples are seen as somewhat irregular, even when we try not to think this way.
Reading this book gave me a fresh sense of adoration toward my own kids and an intense desire to nurture them. I wanted to cuddle them in my arms and remind them how much I love them and how sweet and special they are. So, I guess any book that produces that kind of result is a good recommendation. I recommend this book only to those with young children because they will be most likely to relate.
Now, go hug your kids.
