What NOT to name your kids....

On the back page of the Texas Living section of the Dallas Morning News today there was an article about several country music legend dads and their sons that have follwed in their footsteps as musicians. I guess it is a Father's Day tribute of sorts. Although, as I read each blurb about the fathers and sons I started to think of it as more of an editorial on the strange naming practices of country music legend dads. Only one of the 5 sons has a "normal" name, although I do have to admit that one of the strange names is a nickname, not a given name. So here's what I am looking at:
Waylon Jennings' son Shooter (the nickname, his given name is also Waylon, which is not very high on the good name list, anyway.)
Steve Young's son Jubal Lee
Terry Allen's son Bukka
Jerry Jeff Walker's son Django (pronounced Dingo, says Cody) and
Jimmie Dale Gilmore's son Colin (the lone normal name.)

Cody's personal favorite is Bukka. I, however, am more prone to dislike Django given it's strange spelling. It's bad enough having a strange name- and how much worse if no one can spell it either. But then again, the play on words in Jubal Lee also calls out to me. It's just like the actor Rob Morrow who is married to a lady named Debbon Ayer (I know, we at first thought this was really a stage name for a cross dresser...or something, but it is his wife's name), and together they decided to name their daughter Tu Morrow.

Let this be a lesson to us all.
