An Adventure
Our baby sitters on Friday night looked completely relaxed and normal when we returned home, but they told us there had been an adventure while we were away. My heart beat a bit faster as I looked at our friends, a young married couple we see regularly at church, that had so sweetly volunteered to watch Ava and Nate while we went to a work-related dinner only 5 minutes from our house. I asked what had happened, half fearing their answer. Although adventure sounded somewhat positive, it could mean anything from Ava vomiting all over them to Nate getting a bruise the size of a cantalope. Turns out it was neither. They all had gotten locked out while we were away! After dinner they slipped outside to play, not realizing the door was locking behind them. Our cell number and emergency contacts were all locked inside out of reach, and they found themselves in the Texas heat with no way to get back in. They remained level headed (if not terribly embarrassed), and went to our neighbor's to call a locksmith. It was an expensive adventure, I might add. But overall, no one was hurt, we all learned from the experience, and it's even a little bit funny looking back on it. And of course, we now have blackmailing material on our friends, which can always come in handy. Ha!
