Deep

I haven't written anything too deep lately, so today I'll delve into human nature. Or is that shallow? Have you ever noticed the tendency for humans to be naturally defensive, self-seeking, and arrogant? There are plenty of selfless acts of goodwill among us, but I think those require some effort. The first list is our natural state, though we may bend it sometimes (some more than others). I only mention this because I have seen these qualities played out so plainly in my own thoughts and actions so very many times this week (and my entire life...) And I wish those words didn't describe me, but they really do. This is the classic dilemma of Paul in Romans (7:14-25) and the same dilemma I face today. So if one reads on into chapter 8 we find that the key is to live by the Spirit and not our own nature. I just started reading a book called Celebration of Spiritual Discipline by Richard Foster. Just based on my first impressions and limited exposure, I can tell I am going to love this book. A very practical guide to practicing life by the Spirit. It's not a quick fix, nothing is. I think I will grow and adopt new habits that will help me stay in step with the Spirit better than I am today.
