It Fools Us

There is a particular chore that almost everyone in America believes is a simple thing. It can change the look of a room at relatively small expense and not much work, we think. And then we begin and realize that PAINTING is a NIGHTMARE. It always takes 2 or 3 times longer than we expect, and all the intricate taping and painting around frames and ceilings is enough to drive anyone crazy. But here's the funny thing...after painting wreaks havoc upon us, we quickly forget and once again think of it as a quick easy chore. The next time we paint we are shocked by the difficulty. It's like childbirth. Nature somehow makes us forget so we will continue to repeat this incredibly painful activity. I may be speaking only for myself here, but my bet is many readers are nodding along. I am hearby making a mental note that painting is not what it seems. I may have to write it down somewhere, but somehow I am going to remember. It isn't going to fool me again.

And no, I did not just paint anything, but my friend did and it sparked my memory. Thanks, Rachel.

Becky,

It is funny that you wrote about painting. I just got finished pulling up the tape after painting a bathroom. Of course it seemed small, but it managed to take 2days and 2 coats. I am such a perfectionist that I will now see every flaw in my paint job. Oh well, at least it is a beautiful color!

Amen, sister! By the way, Casey and I have made a pact that we will never paint another room in our house again! We're saving up and having someone else do it next time! And we made the pact so that if either one of us forgets how much we hated it, maybe the other one will remember!
