Baking

I enjoy baking- especially this time of year. Kroger is having a big sale on baking supplies this week. I can't wait to stock up on chocolate chips, pumpkin puree, Eagle Brand milk, etc. I found a great recipe I want to try for Pumpkin Cheesecake Pie. After my grandma passed away last year, my aunt gave me many of her cookbooks. Some of the cookbooks have notes in the cover with page numbers and names of favorite recipes. One of the books is about candy making, a favorite past time of hers. I remember the rows and rows of candy sitting on wax paper at her house during the holidays long ago. I've thought I might try to make some candy this year. It is tricky though. Temperatures must be measured accurately and I think it might take some practice to make decent looking candy! The other treat I want to make this year is tamales. Cody and I made them 2 or 3 years ago, but haven't done it since. Our family enjoys eating tamales on Christmas Eve. It takes a full day to make tamales, but then there are tons of them to pull out of the freezer and enjoy throughout the year. I had to do some research to prepare for those...it was a completely unfamiliar process. But, I think I still have all the recipes and notes we used, and hopefully it will come back to us as we attempt them again.

I love baking too. Most of my baking has a common ingredient - chocolate! The only candy I am good at is fudge and chocolate-dipped pretzels (if those even qualify for candy). I don't even have a candy thermometer.
