Best Chocolate Chip Cookies....EVER

I would not toss that title around lightly. I've tasted many chocolate chip cookies during my 30 years on earth, and honestly this recipe makes the very best. And I am willing to share it instead of hogging all the cookie goodness for myself. It's from Cody's Aunt Liz, and I don't know where she got it. I married into this recipe, receiving it from Cody's mom. I make it all the time and never get tired of it. I made these tonight in fact. If you ever try this recipe, you'll never use a different chocolate chip cookie recipe again for the rest of your life. Trust me. Warning: you may want to make these when another adult is present...someone that can stop you from consuming a dozen of them fresh and warm from the oven.

1 cup shortening
2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
12 oz. semi sweet chips

Beat together shortening, eggs, white and brown sugar, and vanilla.
Add dry ingredients a little at a time, mixing after each addition.
Last, stir in chips.
Spoon 1 inch or a little bit larger balls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for about 8 minutes. (watch them carefully near the end!)

The trick on these is not to over cook. Do not let the tops get too brown! Take them out at slight browning on top. Then let them sit on the cookie sheet for about a minute before removing to wire rack. They will firm up as they cool.

Prepare to be amazed. Get a glass of milk ready. Enjoy!

You know I'm going to make this - and soon! The best chocolate chips I've ever tasted (just in case you were wondering!) are from Kessler's Cookies. They ship everywhere but they're located in Dallas. So, so good - you can taste the butter!

I do have to agree they are THE BEST.....and I had to really think about sharing this recipe with you instead of keeping it to myself so my sons and grandchildren (and D-I-L's) would just get these cookies from me....but since Liz shared with me..........and Amberly, that cc cookie recipe I got from you a couple of years ago are wonderful as well...sorta a butter cookie.
