My perfect streak is over. I got my first speeding ticket today. Now I have to fork out the money to pay it and the time to go to the court and request deferred disposition. (That means the ticket doesn't go on your permanent record if you get no other tickets in 90 days...for those of you that have not had a ticket before. I had to read all about it online. I was clueless about the options.) I was on the access road of 75 when suddenly a cop stepped out into my lane about 50 yards ahead and motioned for me to pull over. He had been standing there using the laser gun on cars. I was going 54 and the speed limit was 40. Now, in my defense, I really thought the access road speed limit is 45 everywhere along 75. AND, I had just pulled over into the right lane and accelerated to pass a car going about 35 in the left lane. Of course, I didn't give him any excuses. I just took my medicine politely. He asked if there was some emergency, and for a split second I thought about using my 8 month pregnant state somehow. Instead I meekly replied, "No." The officer was extremely nice, which made things a little better. However, the entire thing just made me feel horrible, and I did cry a little when I got home and told Cody about it. Cody actually laughed at me...while I was crying! But, he didn't laugh when I looked up the fine amount online. The ironic thing is that I was just boasting to a group of friends recently that I had never gotten a ticket. Yep, this will shut me up.

Jake can share your pain. He got a ticket going 73 in a 55 - to his defense we thought it was 65 and we thought we had the cruise on 70. The 55 speed limit was a short section - as soon as we were back on the highway it said 65 - we were so bummed and we honestly did not know our mistake. He is doing the deferred thing as well. We aren't laughing about our fine as well. That is where our Christmas money is going. :)
