Diapers

Some people are loyal to only one brand of diapers. I tend to buy Huggies, but I am definitely not exclusive. There are things I like about all the different brands. Pampers smell good. I like that powder scent because it's so fresh and baby-ish. Pampers also have Sesame Street characters on them, which I like. Huggies seem to be extremely flexible and fit the baby very well. Plus they are a little cheaper than Pampers. The Walmart store brand is what I used for most of Ava's diaper needs. They were much less expensive than Pampers or Huggies and worked well on her, although they tended to leak when I used them on Nate. I also think White Cloud and Luvs are good diapers, though you can hardly ever find a coupon for Luvs like you can for Huggies. I even tried cloth diapers for a while with Ava, though it turned out to be much harder than I anticipated. I would still be interested in trying cloth again sometime. Maybe if I used different diaper covers or folded the diapers a different way it would work better. What would really be nice is if the Dallas area had a cloth diaper service. My friend in Seattle uses one that picks up dirty cloth diapers and delivers clean ones to your door. One problem with cloth diapers is that baby poop is just so darn hard to wash out. There is something about that soft yellow poop that defies the laws of nature. If you don't soak it in something mighty powerful, and sometimes even still, it will stain clothes forever.
I can't even imagine what people did back in the pioneer days or ancient times. We've got it pretty good when it comes to diapering our babies. I do feel guilty about the tons of soiled diapers piling up in the landfills, though.

My mom actually used only cloth diapers only on me - for budget purposes, not because she wanted to. I think she used disposables for my brother, though.

My intent was to go with cloth diapers with Kimber - but then I did not. The disposable ones are so much easier - but filling up our landfills. Cloth diapers just require so much more work and it is hard to take the time to deal with it especially with more than one child - cleanliness is also another big concern. But if there was diapering service, I might consider it for next time. I love Parent's Choice diaper - now I have only used it on a girl but it is the best diaper and the best price for Kimberlyn. Kimber did not do well with huggies for some reason.

I never even considered using cloth diapers! I know I definitely could not have handled that!

When the twins were in diapers, we tried using generic brands, but Samuel would leak out of every single diaper, except Pampers. He has such a small bladder, so he would fill up his diapers to capacity (and then some) every single night! He always "seeped" out of Huggies, because of their cloth-like outer covering. Pampers were the only diapers that he didn't leak through, because they have a plastic-y outer covering.

Now, with Nicholas, we use Pampers again just because they seem to run the largest, without resorting to training pants. That boy has a belly on him!!

We tend to favor Huggies at our house because they are the only ones that Jonathan doesn't leak out of on a regular basis. However, we don't use tham exclusively because with four babies to diaper we use whatever we can get! We've been blessed to regularly receive free diapers from our church family and we are so grateful!

My mom used cloth diapers exclusively on me and my brother. She would soak the diapers in the toilet though, and accidentally flushed them many times. My dad loved that.

I never thought of using cloth diapers either. Disposable ones are so easy and handy. Also with working, that was not something that I wanted to deal with.

I know my mother-in-law (Ouida) used cloth diapers for most, if not all, of her kids. Daniel has stories about trying to wash out the diapers of some the younger kids diapers when he was a teenager....not sure what we will do someday....disposable sure are easy!! Ouida would probably have some good advice about folding them, etc......
