We Aren't Alone

Ava woke me up at 3 AM last night. Her pallet had a bunch of stuff on it, so I let her crawl into our bed and I headed downstairs to sleep in the guest bed. Actually, the guest bed is our bed, which we intend to move into one day. All our clothes are down here and our bedroom set. But we keep on sleeping upstairs since it's closer to the kids if they need us during the night...which happens occasionally as it did last night. I never did go back to sleep the rest of the night. One of the reasons was because of the awful scurrying noise I kept hearing every now and then. It seemed to be coming from above the ceiling. Heaven knows what is living up there scratching about and driving me insane. I can imagine all kinds of horrible things it might be, the worst being a rat, or perhaps an entire colony of waterbugs. Whatever it is, it has found a cozy spot to live this winter and there must be some way of going in and out to get food. So I am hoping Cody can figure out where it is getting in and solve that problem. However, I would hate for him to board up the entrance while the "thing" is inside the house. Meanwhile, I am headed upstairs to clear off Ava's pallet in case she wakes again tonight. I am not spending another night down here until our uninvited guest finds a new home.

I've got a great pest control guy that will take care of that problem for you! When we discovered we weren't alone at our old home, he found a squirrel's nest in our attic... among other rodents. But, with a few traps & removal of the nest, he got rid of our visitors! Let me know if you want his info...

I remember one night when I was a kid that I woke up to loud banging noises. It scared me to death. I didn't know what it could be. I thought maybe someone was in the house or on the roof. I ran to my parents' bedroom, and my dad was beating the ceiling with a broom because there were rats up there that had been scurrying around and driving him crazy all night. As soon as I found out what the noise was, it struck me as funny seeing my dad beating on the ceiling.

Just reading the word 'waterbug' sent shivers down my spine.....I hate those things!! So glad we don't have them in Tennessee, at least not that I've seen anyway. Brandy

We had rats in our attic our first winter in our home. The first pest control guy took care of it for a few weeks, but more came. Before it got cold again, Michael went up and boarded up places he thought a rat might go through and cut limbs off of our trees. One Saturday morning, we heard one struggling to get through the board. He made a few trips up there and struggled to leave. We haven't heard anything since. He must have decided it was too difficult to do each night. Hallalujah!
