Generous Girl
My daughter is teaching me a lesson about generosity. Her Bible class is collecting food for the church food pantry. She excitedly told me about it and exclaimed that she wanted to bring cranberries for the "food tower" her class is making. Dried cranberries are Ava's favorite food. I'm sort of hooked on them also- so sweet and chewy! Dried cranberries are not your usual food pantry material though. Plus, they are kind of expensive. But, Ava had her mind set on them. I asked her why she wanted to give dried cranberries and she said it's because they are soooo good. I asked her if she understood that she would not be eating them, but she would be giving them to someone else. She understood it perfectly. She just wanted to give the very best, and in her mind that's cranberries. So it got me to thinking about how I go about giving. I usually want to reserve the best for myself. What if I gave away what I consider to be the best- materially, or the best part of my time, or the best of my abilities instead of always using those for my own purpose? Something for me to chew on, besides the cranberries which have already been donated.
