Well, I just broke the cardinal rule of cookie baking:
Thou shalt not over-bake cookies.
I not only broke the rule, I obliterated it. The cookies on my first tray have black, crispy, totally burned bottoms and are basically inedible. I do get credit for trying to scrape the bottoms with a knife. I'm not going to waste a tray of cookies. But I have to face the fact that they are not going to taste very good no matter what I do now. I made sure to under-bake the next tray full of cookies, or in other words, they are perfect. Gooey, yummy, soft, chewy cookies.
