Left Behind

Finally, the work on our street is finished! For several months we've been living with excessive noise, trash and debris piled high on the edge of our yard, a semi truck parked right in front of our house, or all the worker's trucks parked right in front of our house, the uncertainty of whether or not our driveway will be available or blocked, one way traffic making us go out of our way to get home, and a beautiful bright blue port-a-potty in our yard. This morning I pulled out of the driveway to find everything gone...except the port-a-potty. That is still in our yard. Not one single trace of street work remains other than this potty. So now, it looks even stranger than before that our seemingly normal home has a portable potty sitting in the front yard. "What kind of crazy hillbillies live there?" people must ask themselves as they casually drive through our neighborhood. Or maybe they wonder if the city is now offering a new service of random rest stops for road weary commuters who can't quite make it home without a bathroom break. I just hope someone comes to haul it away soon. Care to place wagers on how long it will take? Anyone?
