We had one of the best days of fun $3 can buy today.

Maybe it cost more than $3 technically, but the total amount I had to shell out today was only $3. I took the kids to the zoo...by train. I made a picnic lunch, stuffed my backpack to the brim with supplies, and the four of us drove the short distance to the train station. I bought the $3 round trip ticket and we were on our way. The kids love the train. And I must say I think the regular commuters appreciate their enthusiasm. We had ladies giving us stickers and men and women alike chatting with us. Lucas was getting a lot of attention. The train is an optimum way to get to the zoo. No traffic, no gas cost, and it lets off right across the street from the entrance. Because we have a zoo membership, we didn't have to buy tickets. We strolled leisurely around the zoo for a couple of hours. The weather was perfect...a nice cloudy and cool day. And aside from the moment when Ava started screeching that she "Saw the kangaroo's penis," we attracted little attention. We ate a great picnic lunch right by the lemur exhibit. And then we caught the train home. We were all tired from our adventure. And I think we're all looking forward to doing it again sometime.
