Call Me Martha

I'm in the midst of a Martha Stewart weekend. I can't live like Martha every day, but every once and a while I get a glimpse of what life would be like if I were crafty, patient, full of ingenuity, and had no demands on my time other than to express myself in creative details around the home.

I have been baking these adorable raspberry pinwheels I found in my newest magazine subscription, Real Simple. I think they will make nice gifts this holiday season. They look very Christmas-y, especially in mason jars with a ribbon tied around the neck. The only drawback to these delightful cookies is that they take for-freakin-ever to make. I bet Martha would never say that. I think these cookies would have fit better in a magazine called "Not As Simple As It Looks."

After making the cookies I felt like getting some fresh air outside. I stepped out and nearly tripped over the scattered tree branches Cody had trimmed from our Christmas tree. I had asked him to save them for me in case I wanted to do something crafty with them. Inspiration struck. This time it really was simple. I grabbed a clear vase and stuck in the trimmings. Then, I added a bit of vine from the yard. The vine just happened to have beautiful red berries on it. Hopefully, they aren't poisonous or anything, although I do plan to keep an eye on the kids to make sure they don't sample the centerpiece.

I must admit, every time I walk by this gorgeous, natural looking arrangement I smile. I guess that's the point of doing these extra little things. Their beauty, and the satisfaction of creating them brings joy.

Beautiful goodie jars, Becky. And that centerpiece is really gorgeous as well. Martha would be proud!

I do love the jars and the arrangement. It does make you feel good to look at a creation like that. And yes, a LOT of the things in Real Simple are not simple at all!

I used to get the magazine Real Simple. John always laughed at it. It was by far the thickest magazine in our stack. John wondered why a mag on simplicity wouldn't be just a few pages! LOL.
