Piano Monster

I've created a monster.

About a year ago I started giving Ava an occasional piano lesson. It was supposed to be weekly, or twice a week, but we didn't do well in remembering it. Ava obliged me when I would bring it up, but she never reminded me or asked for piano lessons. She did fine at it, probably even above average. But, she never practiced on her own or showed any excitement. Piano just may not be her thing, and that's okay.

Nate, however, has been pestering me for piano lessons since I began with Ava. I feel kind of bad about it, but I put him off. I was focused on teaching Ava and I thought he might be too young still. He has been persistent though, so I finally started giving him some lessons about 2 weeks ago. And it has not stopped. This boy took off like a wildfire. He practices all the time, loves the piano, and asks me for lessons constantly so that I sometimes give him 2 a day. He also catches on extremely fast. He has such a natural talent and strong desire to learn. In less than 2 weeks, he caught up to where Ava was in the first lesson book. (To her credit, remember how I let weeks slide between her lessons, sometimes months.)

I had no idea he would love piano so much or be so good at it. It has been so much fun watching him beam with pride as he learns and as he plays songs for the family.

How cool that Nate has found something he loves. I think it's amazing how his affinity for the piano can manifest itself so early. Can't wait to see how he progresses.
