Hymn

This hymn keeps coming to mind over the past few months. The man who wrote it (George Matheson, in the late 1880's) says that it came to him during a time of intense anguish and suffering. Based on these lyrics, I believe it. I love all the words so much, but that first line...that glorious first line grabs my heart and brings tears to my eyes. I love this hymn. In fact, I am just now deciding that I want it to be sung at my funeral. Loyal readers make a note and remind Cody or the kids when the time comes, will ya?

O Love that will not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in thee;
I give thee back the life I owe,
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.

O light that followest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to thee;
My heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.

O Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the promise is not vain,
That morn shall tearless be.

O Cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from thee;
I lay in dust life’s glory dead,
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.

I believe we sang this at Jerry's service a few weeks ago. Beautiful words and music as well.
