The alarm woke me up one morning with this song. How random. I had never heard it before, and I immediately fell in love with it. I researched it later that day and fell in love with more. How incredible that these are Woody Guthrie lyrics penned sometime before his death and put into song many years later by Billy Bragg and Wilco. I have so much awe and respect for Guthrie as one of the best and most influential songwriters of the century. His lyrics are powerful and meaningful. And the recent artists did a fabulous job capturing the feel of the song as they added the music.
Not to mention, I have a thing for California. I was born there, after all. So this song is really quite perfect for me. And Cody surprised me with a copy of the song as a gift after I had only mentioned it once...he knew I'd enjoy it, and he was right.

Yes - love that song! I haven't heard it in a couple of years but Wilco and BB cover it beautifully.
