What creatures could I mean, you ask? Why none other than the fascinating roly poly. I imagine the roly poly has been intriguing children for thousands of years now. These wonderful fat little grey ovals with millions of legs that have the most amazing ability in nearly the entire known world. We adults take it for granted. To a child however, watching a roly poly curl up into a ball is a magical moment in time. Ava loves to watch them. We had the "good fortune" yesterday of a roly poly crawling across our bathroom floor as Ava sat on the potty. "He's so cute" she said in her best adoring voice. She wanted to take him as her very own. "Do you want to read a book, roly poly?" she asked. "Do you want to sit on my lap?" "Come here, little one." "Ohhhhh, roly poly!"
What a wonderful little bug. Much cuter than roaches and less spooky than spiders. The perfect bug (if there is such a thing.) It has a cute little name and an incredible talent. Let's hear it for the roly poly!
