On Vacation
From where I am sitting, I can look out a wall of windows on my right and watch the endless ocean waves rolling onto the beach. In fact, because our house is on high stilts, and the ocean is only about 15 feet away, it actually looks like our house is sitting in the middle of the ocean. It's a view, and a sound I could live with on a daily basis. But, I am happy just to have a week here with my family to rest and relax. Ava loves the waves. She's been in the water lots of times in only the day and a half we've been here. She likes playing in the sand, and picking up shells. We actually have to watch her carefully or she'll wander out deeper into the ocean than I am comfortable with. Brave little one. Cody and I tried our hand at boogie boarding last night- rather unsuccessfully. However, the waves today are much larger so we will try again. Nate likes to eat sand. I keep thinking he'll decide it's really gross and stop putting it in his mouth. We had heard that the seaweed was terrible now and piled deep on the beach to where you couldn't even see the sand. Thankfully that has not been the case. There is plenty of sandy beach to enjoy. It's such a treat to be together as a family with no work or daily routine to get in the way. Just soaking up the sun, and soaking up each other's attention. Letting our whims guide our day and slowing the pace of life waaaaaaay down to a peaceful loll, just like the waves. Eating popsicles and reading in the sun, watching dolphins surface and pelicans dive for fish, watching movies, reading to Ava, helping Nate stand, staying up late, wishing we could sleep in late too but realizing that our kids automatically pop awake at 7 AM for some reason. This might have to become an annual affair.
